Celeste, a quick-thinking, yet sometimes naïve Latina teenager, loses her childhood innocence and comes to terms with her status as a person of color after an all-too-common altercation with a middle-aged man, John. Goofing off with friends, Celeste accidentally falls onto John’s lawn. John becomes irate then verbally and physically abuses the teenagers. When the teens try to defend themselves, John grabs his gun. What the teenagers discover afterward about John leaves them further paralyzed
