_troll-says-my-5ft-5in-husband-looks-like-my-son-but-we-couldnt-be-more-in-love.jpg "A 5ft 10ins woman who towers over her short husband says trolls say he looks like her son but they couldn’t be more in love.<br/><br/>Cassandra Gaspard, 29, and her partner, Westin, 32, are constantly stared at due to their height difference.<br/><br/>Cassandra is five inches taller than Westin - who is 5ft 5ins - and is asked why she is with her husband by strangers.<br/><br/>But the couple couldn’t be happier, after tying the knot last month, and have never seen their height difference as a problem.<br/><br/>Westin, a technical account manager, from New York City, US, said: “In real life people don’t come up to me. They come up to my wife.<br/><br/>“They said ‘how can you be with him? He’s so short.'<br/><br/>“People stare at us – it happens a lot.<br/><br/>“Trolls say I look like her handbag or I’m her son. They are trying to be funny.”<br/><br/>Cassandra, who works in customer care, said: “It’s a little odd that people look at height difference and think we don’t deserve to be in a relationship.<br/><br/>“It’s not the norm – society thinks 6ft men need to be with shorter men.<br/><br/>“You love who you love.”<br/><br/>Casandra had embraced her height by the time she met Westin on Tinder in 2017 – and even wore five inch heels on their first date.<br/><br/>She said: “I grew up taller than everybody. I was the odd ball out.<br/><br/>“I accepted in my 20s that I couldn’t change.<br/><br/>“Now I’m mostly in heels.”<br/><br/>Westin had never had any issues with his height or dating girls taller than him.<br/><br/>He said: “My height is what it is. I can’t stretch myself.<br/><br/>“I always carried myself in a confident way.<br/><br/>“When I met my wife I said ‘you’re tall and there is nothing you can do about it. And I’m small and there is nothing I can do about it’.<br/><br/>“We never cared about it.<br/><br/>“It’s a blessing. If something is up on a shelf and I can’t get it. Guess who I’m calling? My wife.”<br/><br/>Despite their confidence, the couple did have to adjust to the constant stares and comments.<br/><br/>Cassandra said: “I remember the very first time someone said something.<br/><br/>“These two or three older men were looking at us.<br/><br/>“They said ‘she’s really tall, he’s really short – I can’t believe it’.”<br/><br/>Westin says he also gets comments asking if he has 'short man syndrome'.<br/><br/>He said: “Someone said 'I hope he doesn’t have a temper'.<br/><br/>“Short men get a bad rep and they think I have short man syndrome.<br/><br/>“People could be missing out on a life partner because of all these preconceived notions.<br/><br/>“It’s silly stuff like women can’t be with a man shorter than her. They want someone to look up to and protect them.<br/><br/>“I’m a boxer – I can protect my wife.<br/><br/>“It doesn’t have anything to do with my height.”<br/><br/>Cassandra added: “There are tall women married to short men.<br/><br/>“It’s not like OMG I just found a rare coin.”<br/><br/>Westin said: “Love is love no matter what.”")

_turkish-tv-was-forced-to-apologise-after-a-fan-suffered-a-wardrobe-malfunction-at-a-volleyball-match.jpg "A TV station was forced to make a public apology after focusing on a fan's cleavage during coverage of a volleyball match between Turkey and the United States.<br/><br/>As defending champions Turkey triumphed in a 3-2 victory over the US, the camera cut to the ecstatic reactions of the crowd, relayed in slow motion for effect.<br/><br/>But it was their focus on one female supporter dressed in Turkey's colors that caused a backlash on social media, as several seconds of the woman jumping in jubilation was deemed too much for the intended audiences.<br/><br/>As the woman was reportedly forced to take her social media channels offline following criticism, Turkish TRT Spor released a statement blaming the coverage on its host broadcaster in the US.<br/><br/>They said an 'unwanted image' had appeared during the broadcast, blaming the 'disturbing situation' on the US. <br/><br/>'This image, which is completely contrary to our publication policy, originates from the US broadcaster, and the discomfort felt by this situation has been conveyed to the other party,' the statement read. <br/><br/>Fans erupted on Monday as Turkey prevailed in a hard-fought tie-breaker to overcome the Americans 3-2 in the FIVB Nations League.<br/><br/>As the crowd celebrated the victory on the pitch, the camera held its gaze for a few moments on the reaction of one fan dressed in all red.<br/><br/>The female supporter jumped on the spot, elated by the victory.<br/><br/>But broadcast in slow motion, critics in Turkey were offended by the woman's dress code.<br/><br/>The woman was sadly targeted by threats and insulting messages after the clip was broadcast, before being pushed to close her accounts, according to Turkish media.<br/><br/>With no mention of the woman or abuse endured, the broadcaster shared a press release on Monday after the game.<br/><br/>'We would like the public to know that the shooting and direction of the match was carried out by the US broadcaster,' the statement read.<br/><br/>They said TRT Spor and all other broadcasters using the US stream showed the images relayed to them 'without the possibility of intervention'.<br/><br/>'Therefore, this image which is completely contrary to our publication policy, originates from the US broadcaster, and the discomfort felt by this situation has been conveyed to the other party.<br/><br/>'TRT, in its capacity and responsibility as Turkey's public broadcaster, will continue to be a strong supporter of Turkish sports,' the statement said, wishing the Turkish team luck in their upcoming matches against Thailand, Dominican Republic, China, and Brazil later this month.<br/><br/>Not all agreed. One user on Twitter wrote: 'They should apologize to the real woman, why did they do it?' <br/><br/>Another said: 'She's happy to leave her alone'<br/><br/>But others thought the channel was right to 'apologise' for offending local sensibilities.")

![Olympic boxing gold medallist Nicola Adams has a created self-defence lesson for women - to empower them in vulnerable situations.<br/><br/>The online session features the West Yorkshire star demonstrating different boxing techniques and basic defence moves.<br/><br/>It is five minutes long to allow for busy schedules – and includes moves the star might use ahead of a big fight in the ring as well as confidence techniques.<br/><br/>The video is available to watch for free on YouTube [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsMNmVSUhdI].<br/><br/>It comes as research of 2,000 women by Bodyform found 53 per cent have felt vulnerable and insecure at times, while 46 per cent have felt unsafe.<br/><br/>These feelings have been provoked when walking down the street at night (61 per cent), on public transport (40 per cent) and even walking outside in the daytime (35 per cent).<br/><br/>Although more than half (53 per cent) have already turned to sport or exercise as a way of improving how they feel about themselves, be that physically or mentally.<br/><br/>And 27 per cent said being physically stronger helps them to feel safer, more confident and empowered as a woman.<br/><br/>Nicola Adams, OBE, who is working with the feminine protection brand to empower women, said: “Bodyform’s Superiority campaign is important, and comes at a time where we are aware as a nation that women have a right to feel strong and protected, but more work needs to be done.<br/><br/>“The class we’ve created together aims to providewomen+ with tools to help them feel more protected, empowered and to increase their sense of self-worth.<br/><br/>“I’ve always set out to challenge norms and to encourage women to believe in themselves, and this is just another way together we can help to break barriers.”<br/><br/>The study, carried out via OnePoll.com, found 73 per cent of women don’t believe they should feel threatened by anyone in any situation, due to their gender.<br/><br/>Although those who have felt strong and safe in recent months admit this was when they were at work (45 per cent), out with a group of friends (27 per cent) and at the gym (16 per cent).<br/><br/>To help themselves to feel more confident, 42 per cent of women try to eat well and 38 per cent stick to being in familiar places such as their hometown.<br/><br/>Just under three in 10 (28 per cent) will spent time outside, 27 per cent focus their efforts on being physically strong and 21 per cent do lots of exercise.<br/><br/>Of those who have turned to sport or exercise to improve their physical or mental health, 67 per cent admit it helps them to feel good about themselves and many like the sense of focus (44 per cent) or purpose (36 per cent).<br/><br/>But there are a number of barriers still preventing women from being heard, and feeling protected – such as louder, more confident characters (41 per cent), body images pressures (38 per cent) and decision makers being predominantly male (24 per cent).<br/><br/>Women would like to feel stronger and empowered when walking down the street (39 per cent), in medical settings (32 per cent) and at work (31 per cent).<br/><br/>While others want to be secure and comfortable in the pub (24 per cent), in nightclubs (20 per cent0 and when running in public (15 per cent).<br/><br/>A spokesperson for Bodyform [https://www.bodyform.co.uk/] said: “Partnering with Nicola felt completely right, as everything she stands for as a woman aligns with what we are about – strength, both physically and mentally, equality and inclusion.<br/><br/>“We’re not just about words, we’re about solutions, and Nicola allows us to do that by creating a self-defence class accessible for everyone and which champions female empowerment.<br/><br/>“Women often face situations where their comfort and protection and security is threatened, and we want challenge and change that.”<br/><br/>TOP 15 THINGS THAT MAKE WOMEN FEEL MORE EMPOWERED:<br/><br/>1. They come up to my wife.<br/><br/>“They said ‘how can you be with him? He’s so short.'<br/><br/>“People stare at us – it happens a lot.<br/><br/>“Trolls say I look like her handbag or I’m her son. They are trying to be funny.”<br/><br/>Cassandra, who works in customer care, said: “It’s a little odd that people look at height difference and think we don’t deserve to be in a relationship.<br/><br/>“It’s not the norm – society thinks 6ft men need to be with shorter men.<br/><br/>“You love who you love.”<br/><br/>Casandra had embraced her height by the time she met Westin on Tinder in 2017 – and even wore five inch heels on their first date.<br/><br/>She said: “I grew up taller than everybody. I was the odd ball out.<br/><br/>“I accepted in my 20s that I couldn’t change.<br/><br/>“Now I’m mostly in heels.”<br/><br/>Westin had never had any issues with his height or dating girls taller than him.<br/><br/>He said: “My height is what it is. I can’t stretch myself.<br/><br/>“I always carried myself in a confident way.<br/><br/>“When I met my wife I said ‘you’re tall and there is nothing you can do about it. And I’m small and there is nothing I can do about it’.<br/><br/>“We never cared about it.<br/><br/>“It’s a blessing. If something is up on a shelf and I can’t get it. Guess who I’m calling? My wife.”<br/><br/>Despite their confidence, the couple did have to adjust to the constant stares and comments.<br/><br/>Cassandra said: “I remember the very first time someone said something.<br/><br/>“These two or three older men were looking at us.<br/><br/>“They said ‘she’s really tall, he’s really short – I can’t believe it’.”<br/><br/>Westin says he also gets comments asking if he has 'short man syndrome'.<br/><br/>He said: “Someone said 'I hope he doesn’t have a temper'.<br/><br/>“Short men get a bad rep and they think I have short man syndrome.<br/><br/>“People could be missing out on a life partner because of all these preconceived notions.<br/><br/>“It’s silly stuff like women can’t be with a man shorter than her. They want someone to look up to and protect them.<br/><br/>“I’m a boxer – I can protect my wife.<br/><br/>“It doesn’t have anything to do with my height.”<br/><br/>Cassandra added: “There are tall women married to short men.<br/><br/>“It’s not like OMG I just found a rare coin.”<br/><br/>Westin said: “Love is love no matter what.”")
